Dear patients, general practitioners and cooperation partners,

Logo_AdipositasMagdeburg University Hospital is one of the centers for obesity medicine in Saxony-Anhalt. In addition to the treatment of pathological obesity, the focus is also on research in the areas of prevention, epidemiology and etiology. Since 1997, patients with pathological obesity (morbid overweight) have been treated conservatively and surgically on an interdisciplinary basis. The many years of experience, the interdisciplinary concept in close cooperation with general practitioners and partners ensures optimal individual treatment.

Pathological obesity is a complex disease with increased body weight and associated concomitant diseases. Due to changes in lifestyle and, in rare cases, a genetic predisposition, more and more people suffer from obesity. Early treatment of obesity leads to the prevention or reduction of associated diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, lipid metabolism disorders, joint and spinal changes, sleep apnea, and to an increase in physical well-being and performance.

Due to the complex clinical picture, obesity can only be treated in an interdisciplinary manner. This includes conservative and surgical therapy.

Conservative therapy includes behavioral, nutritional and exercise therapy as well as medically supervised treatment. At the same time, diseases that lead to increased body weight (e.g. endocrinological, psychosomatic) must be clarified and treated if necessary.

The indication for surgical therapy exists after unsuccessful conservative therapy. There are various surgical procedures that lead to a long-term reduction in excess weight and thus also to an improvement in concomitant diseases. The type of surgery depends on the patient's lifestyle and eating habits, medical history and concomitant diseases.

The interdisciplinary team in close cooperation with established cooperation partners and general practitioners ensures continuous and lifelong follow-up care.
