Magdeburg Sports Medicine Evenings

23.06.2026 -

Expert knowledge on exercise, prevention, and heart health for professionals and the general public

How much exercise is still healthy—and when does it become a risk? These are the kinds of questions explored in the “Magdeburg Evenings in Sports Medicine” lecture series, organized by the Cardiovascular Prevention and Sports Medicine (KPS) working group at the University Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology in collaboration with the Magdeburg University Children’s Hospital. On July 8 and September 30, 2026, starting at 5:00 p.m. each day, Lecture Hall 7 on the campus of Magdeburg University Medical Center (Leipziger Straße 44) will open its doors—featuring guests from Hanover and Leipzig. The event format is explicitly designed not only for a specialized audience from the fields of medicine and science, but for anyone interested in the connections between sports and health—from recreational athletes to club coaches.

The series aims to present current research in an accessible way, promote dialogue between academia and practice, and bring renowned experts in sports medicine to Magdeburg. Each evening will begin with the Cardiovascular Prevention and Sports Medicine team providing a brief overview of their work. Following that, invited experts will present on a current topic in sports medicine. Admission is free.

Kicking off the summer series is Prof. Eric Stöhr from the Leibniz Institute for Sport and Health in Hanover. On July 8, 2026, he will speak on “Sports and Cardiovascular Health in Children and Adolescents”—a topic that is becoming increasingly important in light of the growing lack of physical activity among young people. On September 30, 2026, Dr. Sven Fikenzer, a specialist in cardiology at Leipzig University Hospital, will follow with a lecture on fitness for sports and the question of why a sports medicine initial examination—known as a pre-participation screening—can be beneficial before resuming training. There will be time for questions and discussion afterward.

Further information is available in the flyer.
