Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, is already mentioned in documents in the year 805.

In addition to the eventful history that the city has gone through, there is also a long tradition in surgery. As early as 1485, the surgeons of the city joined together to form the Magdeburg Bader-Bruderschaft.

The University Hospital is located on the site of the Sudenburg Hospital, which opened in 1891. In 1925-1927, the then surgical clinic was built in the Bauhaus style. Since the founding of the Medical Academy Magdeburg in 1954, the study of medicine has been offered in its entirety with clinic and pre-clinic. Since then, the clinic has undergone continuous development under the direction of Prof. Lemke, Prof. Heinrich and Prof. Lippert.

The range of operations has been and is being constantly expanded, especially in recent years, including the introduction of completely new surgical methods.
